USTA Middle States Delaware

2008 Executive Board

President/President-elect: Carolyn Dombrowski
Carolyn moved to DE from NE, PA in 1985 and graduated from Wilmington Business College in 1992.  She was introduced to the sport of tennis at the ripe young age of 51, and it quickly became her favorite pastime.  She is president of Benefit Strategies, an insurance brokerage firm and is the proud grandmom of 9.  Carolyn has been involved with the WTCNCC for quite a few years doing the newsletter and various other volunteer positions.

Vice President/President-elect:
Parthenia Gardner
Parthenia
is from the Philadelphia area, presently living in Ardmore, Pa.  She has been playing tennis for the past 12 years and has captained a women’s spring league team for the past 6 years - in 2006 her team made it to the district finals.  Parthenia and her husband got involved with tennis when their son began playing tennis 15 years ago at the Arthur Ashe Tennis and Education Center in Philadelphia.  Besides taking up playing tennis they became active in the parents group at the center - working to raise funds to help defray the cost of tennis for youths.  They have been active volunteers at the annual Tennis fund raisers sponsored by USTA at the Ashe Tennis facility. Parthenia has worked at the Christiana Hospital for the past ten years and in the last two years she’s been playing league tennis in Delaware, USTA and WTT.  Tricia Woodstock introduced her to the Women's Tennis Club of New Castle County and has been a member for the past year.  She became actively involved in the WTCNCC and served as the 2007 Annual Banquet Chair.

Secretary:
Jane Burslem
Jane played tennis recreationally in college but started playing competitive tennis about 12 years ago.  In 2004 Jane’s Senior USTA Team went to Princeton were they won and went onto the Nationals in Palm Springs, CA.  She has been a member of the WTC for about 10 years.  Jane has been active with the board of WTC in a few different capacities with most recently serving as Secretary.  She is being nominated to serve as Secretary again for 2008.

Treasurer:
Linda Castle
Linda has played tennis since high school.  She has been playing competitively for the past 11 years and was on the 2004 Senior USTA Team that went to Princeton and Nationals.  Her non tennis playing life she work for a local advertising agency.  Linda was elected and served as the WTCNCC’s Treasurer for this past year and is looking forward to carrying on in that capacity for 2008 – especially since she now has a year of experience under her belt.

Directors -At-Large

Cindy Beach
Cindy is involved in more tennis than she cares to admit, at times. She currently takes advantage of 2 WTCNCC contracts at HIT. She played on 3 USTA teams during the summer. She plays Wilmington Cup for Bellevue and Philadelphia Cup for Dupont Country Club). For the first time, this Fall, she captained a 3.5 WTT team. She is also playing on 2 mixed teams. Cindy participates in the Deltri league out of Brandywine Racquet Club. Cindy enjoys the variety of competition, but ultimately, it is the camaraderie that is most satisfying.

She is thankful for her ability to play competitive tennis. God-willing, Cindy hopes, 30 years from now, she will still be whacking that tennis ball!

Michelle Crivella
Michelle has been an active tennis player for17 years and a member of the WTCNCC for 6 years. She is the current president of the Boeing Rotorcraft Division Tennis League. She has played USTA team tennis, both women's and mixed doubles, and also plays contract time at the Granite Run Tennis Club. On a professional side, Michelle is a Computer Scientist and offers her skills in Microsoft Access (membership), web page programming, and the archival of historical records. Michelle lives in Woolwich, NJ, which is just over the Commodore Barry Bridge and10 miles north of the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

Felecia Jones-Sheffield
Originally from Virginia Beach, Va. I have been in Delaware for just over a year and a half. I have been a tennis fan for many years and have recently began to play recreationally. Luckily I stumbled up the WTCNCC website surfing the net and I enjoy being a member of the club and meeting other tennis fanatics. I work for Avon as a Team Leader in their Newark Customer Care office. I am attending Delaware State University working on my Masters in Teaching and will be eventually teaching English to high school students. Though I have no kids of my own I am the very proud aunt of a beautiful one year old niece.

Advisor

Connie Krumm
Connie has been actively involved with tennis for the last 15 years or so starting with coordinating the junior tennis program at the Silverside Swim Club. She co-chaired the Tour des Courts charity event for two years and she is just finishing her term as the Chair of the Women’s Tennis Association of the duPont Country Club. She served as a Director-at-Large with the WTCNCC and is completing her term as the 2006 WTCNCC Vice President. She plays on USTA adult and senior teams and during the winter she plays in the USTA mixed doubles league. "Through the WTCNCC I’ve become involved with the Special Olympics Summer Games and my fondest and proudest moment on the tennis court is when my Special Olympic Partner hits the wining shot for our Unified Doubles match – nothing beats that feeling of knowing that I’ve helped her achieve her goal. I feel that the WTC is responsible for most of my involvement in the Delaware tennis community and am honored to be a part of such a great bunch of women. I hope to follow through with the goals that have been established by the Board and to keep the WTC one of the best tennis organization to belong to in the area."
