Winter Team Tennis is organized round robin
or team tennis that starts in September or October, depending on
the facility, and runs through spring of the following year. The
objective of this program is to maintain your tennis during the
winter months and have fun.
2013-2013
Season
We are a little more than half way through the winter tennis season, but it’s already time to sign up for the 2012-2013 winter indoor tennis season. The tennis clubs do not commit to fees or times this early, but they still require a deposit to secure the contracts. Below is what we THINK we will have for court times. The deposit amount is based on last years’ fees, but is obviously subject to change if the clubs increase their fees. Contracts fill up fast, and it is First Come, First Served.
General Information: The winter contracts are all women’s doubles. HIT 1, 2 and 3 contracts are filled by “teams” of 2-6 people. If your team has only 2 people then you will play every week. If you decide to have more than 2 players then obviously each player will play less, but the individual team will come up with their own schedule of who is playing on any given day. If you do not have a “team”, let me know since there are often other groups that need additional players. The rest of the contracts are round robins (RR). You do not need a partner. Partnerships will be assigned on a rotating basis; however, you’ll need to let us know if you want a full share, half share or quarter share. There is no guarantee on a specific amount of playing time. We cannot accommodate any special requests for time off due to vacations, cup teams, etc. The balance for the contracts will be due in June. Times and fees will be confirmed before then.
Club Membership Fees: You will notice in the contract grid that HIT charged WTC members a $50 membership fee (this fee is subject to change). BRC charged the full $75 membership fee. The “average cost per play” reflects court costs only and is an estimate. **The membership fee should be factored in separately and is payable directly to the club. You are welcome to arrange a ball contract with the individual clubs.
Ratings: Note that you must have a USTA rating or have played on a women’s USTA team at or above the rating level for which you apply. That is, to play in a 4.0 contract, you must have a 4.0 rating or better or have played on a 4.0 team in 2011. For other rules, please visit “WTCNCC.org”.
Registration: : Your deposit check is due BEFORE FEBRUARY 17th and should be made payable to “WTCNCC”. The deposit amount is approximately 50% of the estimated cost for the season, depending on how frequently you play. Mail your application and deposit to the address indicated. Team Captains: please send ONE DEPOSIT CHECK plus the applications (with contact information) for all the players on your team. Keep in mind that more than 120 members participate in the winter contracts and it is imperative that the registration form be filled out accurately. Feel free to copy this years’ roster if your “team” info is current~ be sure to add a note to that effect.
Membership to WTCNCC: Each Winter Tennis participant is required to be a member of WTCNCC at a cost of $25/year. Membership runs March 1, 2011 to February 28, 2012. To pay your annual dues, visit our membership page and securely pay online. You can also mail your check to:
Eve Wan
10 Matson Court
Wilmington, DE 19803.
The check should be made payable to ”WTCNCC”. Unfortunately, due to the high Paypal fees, we cannot accept winter tennis payments online at this time.

Rules
for Winter Team Tennis
Winter Team Tennis is organized round robin or team tennis that
starts in September or October, depending on the facility, and runs
through spring of the following year. The objective of this program
is to maintain your tennis during the winter months.
Eligibility
All players and substitutes must:
- All Players and substitutes must be WTCNCC
members.
- Players can sign up for the level of play
that matches their USTA level, or is lower than their USTA level.
Players signing up for the 2.5 level do not have to have a USTA
rating. An exception is that if you want to play in a level that
is higher than your USTA level.
- In order to sign up for a winter tennis
contract at a higher USTA level than your current USTA rating,
you must have played at that higher level on a USTA women’s
team (mixed team does not count) in the previous year, that is,
prior to signup. Being registered for such a USTA team in the
approaching summer does not qualify. Note that this applies only
to new applicants for a contract, and that once you are in that
WTCNCC contract, you are not required to continue to play USTA
at that level or any other level.
Registration and Payment
- Registration occurs in Jan-Feb for the
approaching Fall-Winter season.
- Deposits are due at time of registration
and are non-refundable, except with board approval.
- The balance of the contract cost is due
by June 1.
- Sending a deposit does not guarantee acceptance
into the requested contract, due to need to check eligibility
and court space. WTCNCC will make every attempt to confirm/deny
acceptance of contract requests within one week after deposit
deadline passes.
- Except for round robin courts, checks from
individual players will not be accepted. One check is required
per team, or individual checks all sent in one envelope for the
team. The names and contact information for all individual players
must be provided in order for WTC to check eligibility.
- Winter tennis is 1st Come, 1st Served, however,
incumbent players in a contract will be accepted first, as long
as they pay before the deadline. Once the deadline passes, all
players get priority on 1st Come 1St Served basis.
- We will oversell contracts as needed to
accommodate demand by putting byes in the schedule, with the limit
that all teams will have a minimum of 80% of the available weeks
in the contract.
- Some facilities offer service of providing
balls for flat fee for the season. Contract captains who gain
agreement from all team leaders in the contract may choose to
sign up for this service, and can do so directly with the facilities.
Otherwise contract captains will provide a ball schedule for their
courts.
Player Responsibilities
- When you join a winter contract,
you agree to play on a certain day and specific times. If you
fail to arrive on time, fail to get a substitute when needed,
or leave early, you prevent the other players in the contract
from getting the value for which they paid. Players should arrive
5 minutes before the scheduled start time so that play can begin
on schedule.
- You are responsible for finding a substitute
if you are unable to play. All subs must comply with eligibility
guidelines and player responsibilities.
- If a player finds a substitute, that player
should notify at least one other player on the court as to who
the substitute will be, so that if the sub does not show up, the
player is not penalized.
- Players who arrive 10 minutes or
more past the scheduled start time are considered late.
Penalties
- In the event of noncompliance with the Player
responsibilities, a player or team may lose their privilege to
play. WTC reserves the right to keep all monies paid, should a
player or team lose privilege to play.
- If a player misses three (3) weeks
and does not find a substitute, or is routinely late, that player
may lose her privilege to play the remaining weeks of the contract,
and no monies will be returned, pending board approval.
- The contract captain or team leader must
send a written warning to missing player after 2 games have been
missed where no substitute was recruited, or in the case of routine
lateness.
- The captain of the contract time
(not the individual team captain) will bring ‘Loss of Privilege’
situations to the board for final approval.
